The Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) will feature some of the foremost contemporary artists through a ten year retrospective of the art magazine, Hi-Fructose. This exhibition is a unique opportunity to bring a broad spectrum of artwork by over 50 artists from the pages of magazines and computer screens to the walls of a contemporary art museum dedicated to educating on the significant art of today. Blade Wynne: Yard Work Blade Wynne’s paintings walk a delicate balance between abstraction and realism. What may at first appear to be a barrage of color and form coalesce to become a whole. A pile of leaves or the edge of a house take shape in our line of vision. When Wynne paints, it is like a dance. He moves between color and form, back and forth, working to discover a visual solution to the different pictorial relationships. Details push forward and then recede in their competition. Unimportant elements fall away and the essentials remain. The paintings stand as a colorful relic of the act of creation. Animated Minds

Animated Minds is a series of animated shorts that document the experience of people who live with mental illness. The goal is to dispel prejudices surrounding these types of illness and to shed light on the experience to a broader public. The director, Andy Glynne, is a trained clinical psychologist. He identified people who live with a variety of mental illnesses and willing to give testimony on their experience. The resulting stories are harrowing, poignant and altogether human. SkillQuest is a day activity program for adults with developmental disabilities run by the City of Virginia Beach. The Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) is delighted to partner with SkillQuest for the thirteenth year to exhibit the work of these talented artists.
