All About Prints

All About Prints is a documentary exploring the art of printmaking from the perspective of influential curators, collectors, dealers, printmakers, and artists. The program touches on the wider history of prints in Western art with an emphasis on key landmarks of printmaking in America. Visually engaging explanations of printmaking terms and techniques are sure to inspire a deeper understanding and appreciation of printmaking as a distinctive art form with unique possibilities. Christi Harris, painter and Assistant Professor of Art at Christopher Newport University, creates symbols of American food and consumer culture through beautifully wrought paintings and drawings. Though seemingly different, the colorful frosting still lifes, supermarket landscapes and cash register portraits symbolize attempts to appease unfulfilled desires. On some level we know that these objects cannot fill our emotional needs. Visually seductive and alluring, Harris’ works respond to those same desires.
