INTRODUCTION DIDACTIC PANEL. Reston, Virginia-based artist, Heidi Fowler, makes paintings inspired by photographs taken from the car window. Using the photo as a point of departure, Fowler then uses collage materials, such as junk mail and fabric, along with acrylic paint and vinyl tape, to reconstruct the landscape. While her images are serene and beautiful she dually illuminates cell phone towers, bridges, transformer boxes and other steel impediments. While these devices are necessity to contemporary society they also interrupt our the aesthetics of the natural world. John R.G. Roth: Conveyance and Movement

John R.G. Roth is a sculptor who constructs his ideas, dreams, memories and fears into complex dioramas and anthropomorphized forms. His knowledge of industrial design, wood-working and model-making allows Roth to give voice to his rich inner life, referencing movement and travel both in his personal experience, and the communities in which he has lived. The socio-political nature of the work references the shared experience that the entire world is facing as the cost of travel and transportation become clear. Roth is an Assistant Professor in Sculpture at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. He received his Master's of Fine Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The …

MOCA was founded in 1952 by a group of artists coming together to support another artist in need. This event soon became the Museum's Boardwalk Art Show and since the 60s, MOCA had retained the artwork from the "Best in Show" winners. In conjunction with the 55th anniversary of Boardwalk Art Show, this exhibition examined past winners as it led visitors through a visual history of the Museum and played homage to our local supporters.
