John R.G. Roth: Conveyance and Movement

September 16, 2010-January 16, 2011
johnrgroth.wordpress.com/

John R.G. Roth is a sculptor who constructs his ideas, dreams, memories and fears into complex dioramas and anthropomorphized forms. His knowledge of industrial design, wood-working and model-making allows Roth to give voice to his rich inner life, referencing movement and travel both in his personal experience, and the communities in which he has lived. The socio-political nature of the work references the shared experience that the entire world is facing as the cost of travel and transportation become clear.

Roth is an Assistant Professor in Sculpture at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. He received his Master's of Fine Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The artist is the recipient of numerous awards including the Juror's Award from The Sculpture Center in Cleveland, Ohio. He was the first place winner of the Down East Sculpture Exhibition in New Bern, North Carolina.

Roth's work has been seen in group and solo exhibitions throughout the nation including the Slowinski Gallery, International Showcase, and the Allen Stone gallery in New York City and the Contemporary Art Workshop in Chicago.
