Call for Exhibition Submissions
The Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) invites Hampton Roads artists of all ages to participate in our upcoming Open (C)all exhibition. This is a unique opportunity for artists — including you — to have their work on display in the MOCA this summer.
MOCA will feature the work of Rob and Nick Carter, Michelle Erickson, and Eric Standley in our galleries this summer. In their own art-making, all of these artists are influenced by art history in some way. While they do not attempt to directly replicate a chosen work of art, they do strive to imitate it in some way—whether in form, structure, design or meaning—and often subvert tradition in favor of their contemporary viewpoint.
For this Open (C)all exhibition, MOCA invites Hampton Roads artists to respond to a particular piece from art history or architecture with which you connect in some way. All mediums are encouraged; the piece must simply reflect individual imagination in creating a new work of art. Show us how the art world influences you by submitting one original 2-D work of art and have your work featured in the community gallery of MOCA this summer!
An opening reception will take place on Wednesday, May 20th, 6-8pm. Each participating artist is invited to attend and will be included on the guest list.
Requirements:
Please note: MOCA cannot insure works during the exhibition, nor can we accommodate requests for placing work in specific locations during the Open (C)all exhibition.
Artwork will be accepted for display only and will not be for sale. MOCA staff will pass along artist contact information to any interested buyers.
Please contact exhibitions@virginiamoca.org with questions.
