Nathan Vincent explores gender permissions and challenges that arise from straying from prescribed norms. Utilizing the stereotypical notions of “women’s work” through the act of crocheting, sewing and appliqué, Vincent’s work questions prescribed “masculine” and “feminine” gender roles. By crocheting saws, Superman emblems and other seemingly male-specific iconography, Vincent’s work contradicts the symbolism traditionally associated with these objects.
