Jonathan Aumen at the MOCA Satellite Gallery at Towne Pavilion II

November 7, 2013 - January 28, 2014
www.jonathanaumen.com/

Raised in Beijing and fresh from a residency in Kunming, China, Jonathan Aumen creates detailed views of the vast networks of buildings found there. He is concerned with the idea that manmade organizations, like cities, are a flawed reflection of more perfect systems found in nature. From a single living cell to a massive forest ecosystem, nature achieves what man attempts. The paintings serve as a beautiful message of concern as humanity tries to organize its massive population.

This exhibition is organized by The Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA). MOCA would like to thank Jonathan Aumen and The Runnymede Corporation for their help in realizing this exhibition. Join us for a free opening reception on Thursday, November 7th from 5-6:30pm. Enjoy light refreshments and meet the artist.

SATELLITE GALLERY

Open Monday-Friday 9am-6pm and Saturday from 10am-4pm. There is no charge for admission. MOCA partnered with The Runnymede Corporation to open a satellite gallery in the lobby of their Virginia Beach headquarters at 600 22nd Street, Pavilion II. A short walk from the museum, MOCA Satellite Gallery at Towne Pavilion II spans the lobby and hallways of the first floor. Exhibitions will rotate every three months featuring work from local and regional artists, some available for purchase. Exhibitions will be organized by MOCA Curator, Heather Hakimzadeh and Director of Exhibitions and Education, Alison Byrne.
