In this new series, join Virginia MOCA Executive Director Gary Ryan in conversation with artists, creatives, and cultural leaders. Gary’s first conversation and studio tour will be with Virginia MOCA Trustee Ryan McGinness, a multidisciplinary artist and Virginia Beach native living and working in New York City.
McGinness is known for his original vocabulary of graphic drawings which use the visual language of signage, logos, art history, and contemporary iconography. In 2015, the exhibition Ryan McGinness: Studio Visit was on view at Virginia MOCA. His work is in the permanent public collections of the Museum of Modern Art, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, Cincinnati Art Museum, MUSAC in Spain, and the Misumi Collection in Japan.
