Dante Marioni: Form, Color, Pattern featured 23 works by one of the best American glass blowers today. Marioni, who studied under the great Lino Tagliepietra, is known for his ability to use rich, bright colors and patterns while retaining masterful symmetry in his glass blowing craft. His vessels stand approximately 40” high and while they nod to a traditional Italian style, they are completely contemporary.
This exhibition was part of a regional collaboration--including the Contemporary Art Center of Virginia (now MOCA), Chrysler Museum of Art and the Virginia Arts Festival--known as Art of Glass 2. The first Art of Glass collaboration was in 1999 and featured the world-famous Dale Chihuly.
