Join Virginia MOCA staff for an in-depth and interactive look at select works of art from our current exhibitions using Close Looking techniques.
More about Close Looking: A study released in 2017 said that the average museum goer spends 27 seconds with one work of art. Close Looking exercises are an invitation to slow down and use your natural observation skills to discover meaning. Close Looking honors the intention of the artist, invites us to make connections, but maybe most importantly, allows us to practice this essential skill that equips us to be more engaged in our everyday lives. Participants will be guided to closely look at works of art while responding to a short series of questions that encourage curiosity.
